Mirror demisters offer a low-cost, luxurious addition to any new bathroom or renovation project, making them ideal for hotel developments or multi-bathroom projects. Typically controlled by a switch and often wired through the lighting circuit, they activate only when the bathroom is in use, effectively clearing condensation from showers or baths. Not only are they easy to install, but they are also highly economical—consuming only 50 Watts per hour for a 50cm by 50cm unit.

The demista™ by Heat Mat range guarantees top-quality products made in the UK, available through Extractor Fan World with a 10-year warranty.

Mirror demisters are versatile, suitable for mirrors of all sizes and a wide range of building projects, from individual bathrooms to large-scale hotel and apartment developments. These demisters are simple to install and ensure that mirrors remain condensation-free.

When selecting a mirror demister, choose one slightly smaller than the mirror. This will keep the covered area condensation-free, with an additional margin around the edges. We recommend covering at least 70% of the mirror's surface for effective heating, with a 50mm margin (25mm minimum) between the heater and the mirror’s edge. Multiple units can be combined for full coverage, ensuring a 10mm gap between each and wiring them in parallel. Some users prefer a smaller, central clear area surrounded by condensation; this can be achieved by selecting a demister significantly smaller than the mirror.

Mirror demisters feature a self-adhesive backing for easy attachment to the back of a mirror, which can then be mounted on the wall. The demister can be covered with solvent-free mirror adhesive. For safety-backed mirrors, the backing should be earthed, along with all surrounding metal parts. Mirror demisters are suitable for all recognized mirror thicknesses, although thicker mirrors will take longer to heat. We do not recommend heating mirrors with cut-outs for sockets or lights, as this can weaken them and cause cracking. If mounting the mirror with screws, ensure the screws have rubber spacers to allow slight movement of the mirror.

Mirror demisters are especially suitable for hotel projects, where they can be wired into either the bathroom lighting system or a key-card operated circuit. They are standard in most new hotel complexes or refurbishments. Bespoke units can be made to order, with custom sizes, cold tail lengths, or voltages available. Please note that made-to-order pads are non-returnable.

Mirror demisters are available in standard 230V or in low-voltage 110V, 24V, and 12V SELV-rated versions. The 230V units are suitable for most bathroom renovations or installations, while SELV-rated pads and transformers are recommended for areas requiring extra protection, such as wet rooms, based on project specifications.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get from customers regarding Demista pads is the wiring positions for the pads. Often, having the power routed to the correct position in your home needs to be known in advance during the planning stages, so we have created this simple Connector Block Data Sheet below to help guide you and your designer.
